AnswerFix

BrightLocal alternative for local businesses

BrightLocal Track costs $41 a month, or $31 billed annually, with AI visibility tracking included free. See where it beats AnswerFix.

Updated September 21, 2026

BrightLocal is a local SEO platform starting at $41 a month, or $31 a month billed annually, and its Local AI Visibility Tracker is included in every plan at no extra charge. For most local businesses shopping for one subscription, BrightLocal is a better buy than AnswerFix. We think that is worth saying at the top, because the cases where we are the better choice are narrow and specific.

What BrightLocal is, and who it is genuinely good for

BrightLocal has been building local SEO software for over fifteen years, which in this category is close to forever. It says it serves more than 15,000 platform customers. The product is a full local marketing stack rather than an AI visibility tool that grew sideways.

The entry plan, Track, already includes:

  • Local rank tracking for up to 100 keywords and four competitors per location.
  • Geo-grid visualisation of local rankings for up to five keywords.
  • Citation accuracy monitoring, with opportunity gaps flagged.
  • A Google Business Profile audit, benchmarked against competitors.
  • Comprehensive local SEO audits.
  • The Local AI Visibility Tracker, described on the pricing page as showing how your business appears across ChatGPT and Google's AI surfaces, broken out by prompt type.

Manage adds AI Insights, which BrightLocal describes as clear, prioritised actions to improve your local SEO, plus listing sync and protection across key sites and Google Business Profile post scheduling. Grow adds review monitoring, review response, review generation by email, SMS and in-store campaigns, and review publishing on your own website.

That is a genuinely complete local programme. If your problem is "my local marketing is scattered across five tools and a spreadsheet", BrightLocal is the answer and we are not.

What BrightLocal costs today

Read off brightlocal.com/pricing on 21 September 2026, at one location:

PlanMonthlyBilled annuallyAnnual total
Track$41$31/mo$369, saving $123
Manage$54$40/mo$485, saving $163
Grow$65$49/mo$584, saving $196

Annual billing saves 25 percent. Pricing scales by number of locations managed, from one up to 100 or more, so the figures above are the single-location case. There is a 14-day free trial with full access and no credit card.

Separately: Citation Builder is pay as you go from $2 a citation with no recurring fee, the fully Managed SEO Service is $1,299 a month, and API access is custom priced.

Two notes on accuracy. First, BrightLocal's own page meta description still says prices start from $39 a month, while the rendered pricing page shows $41 monthly and $31 annual for Track. We are reporting what the page displays. Second, older comparison articles quote $39, $49 and $59 for the three tiers. Those were the numbers before this change; they are not the numbers now.

Where it fits a local business, and where it does not

BrightLocal fits almost every local business that wants one platform. The honest limits are about depth on one specific question, not about quality.

Where it fits:

  • One subscription for the whole local programme. Rankings, citations, Google Business Profile, reviews and AI visibility in one bill.
  • AI visibility at no marginal cost. The Local AI Visibility Tracker is bundled into Track, the cheapest plan. You are not paying an AI surcharge.
  • Agencies with many locations. The per-location model scales to 100 or more, and the platform is built around client reporting.
  • Annual pricing that undercuts us. $31 a month beats our $39.

Where it does not:

  • It is a tracker, not a repair queue. The AI Visibility Tracker reports whether you appear. AI Insights gives prioritised actions. Neither hands your web person a block of JSON-LD to paste and then confirms it landed.
  • Engine coverage on the AI feature is narrow. The pricing page describes ChatGPT and Google's AI surfaces. Perplexity is not named there. AnswerFix queries Perplexity on the free tier and Gemini on paid plans.
  • The AI piece is one feature among thirty. That is a strength for breadth and a weakness for depth. If AI answers are your actual problem, you are buying a lot of product to get at one module.
  • Two of the three plans exist for reviews and listings. If you already have review software and your listings are clean, Manage and Grow are money you do not need to spend, and Track alone may under-serve you.

What AnswerFix does differently

AnswerFix is one narrow product: does AI recommend this business in this city, and what exactly do you change if it does not.

  • The engine's own words, free. The free report shows the full answer text ChatGPT and Perplexity returned, quoted rather than summarised. You can read the answer that skipped you.
  • Named local competitors from the answer itself. We do not ask you who your competitors are. We report which businesses the engine actually recommended instead of you, taken from the answer.
  • Twenty answers on the free check. Ten local-intent questions across two engines, sampled with live web search.
  • Thirteen website checks. Every run audits your site against thirteen rules covering structured data, AI crawler access, answerable content and entity clarity.
  • One complete fix, free, with the code. Not a recommendation. The actual paste-ready markup, with instructions for your platform, and an explicit list of any placeholder you must fill in with your own real facts. We never invent a fact about your business.
  • A re-check that verifies it. Publish the change, press re-check, and we confirm within about ten seconds whether it landed. No tool on our comparison table closes that loop.

And the things we do not do at all, which BrightLocal does: citation building, citation monitoring, Google Business Profile posting, review generation, review response, review publishing, local rank tracking for 100 keywords, and a managed service. If any of those matter to you, this is not a close call.

When to choose BrightLocal instead of us

This section is longer than on our other pages, because the honest answer is that BrightLocal wins more of these comparisons than we do.

  • You want one tool, not two. If the choice is a full local SEO platform at $31 a month annually versus a narrow AI product at $39, and you only have budget for one, take the platform. You will use more of it.
  • Your citations are a mess. Inconsistent name, address and phone data across directories hurts you in AI answers too, because the engines read those sources. BrightLocal fixes that and we do not. Fix it there first.
  • You need reviews handled. Review volume and recency feed directly into which business an engine names. Grow at $49 a month annually covers requesting, responding and publishing. We have nothing in this area.
  • You track local rankings. 100 keywords and a five-keyword geo-grid at the entry tier is a serious rank-tracking allowance, and Google Maps position still sends real customers.
  • You manage many locations. Per-location pricing across up to 100 or more sites, with client reporting built in, is a mature agency model. Our Agency plan covers 15 locations and then $15 each, and our reporting is a branded header and a shareable link rather than full white label.
  • You want a managed service. $1,299 a month for BrightLocal's team to run the programme is a real option. We are software only, with no sales calls and no retainers.
  • You want Google Business Profile posting. Included on Manage. Not offered by us.

Choose AnswerFix if the specific, named problem is that AI engines recommend someone else in your city, you want to read the answer that did it, and you want the repair handed to you rather than described. The two products also sit together comfortably: run our free score to see the AI picture and get the first fix, then use BrightLocal for citations, reviews and Maps rankings. Nothing about either one blocks the other.

Before you trust any score from either vendor, read how we measure, including the run to run variance we found in our own repeated tests. AI answers move between runs, and any tool that shows you one confident number without saying so is overselling.

Frequently asked questions

How much does BrightLocal cost?
At one location, Track is $41 a month or $31 billed annually, Manage is $54 or $40, and Grow is $65 or $49. Annual billing saves 25 percent. There is a 14-day free trial with no card. Managed SEO is $1,299 a month. Checked 21 September 2026.
Does BrightLocal track AI visibility?
Yes. The Local AI Visibility Tracker is included in all three plans, including Track at $41 a month, and the pricing page describes it as showing how your business appears across ChatGPT and Google's AI surfaces. AI Insights, which gives prioritised actions, starts on the Manage plan.
Is BrightLocal better than AnswerFix?
For most local businesses, yes, because it covers citations, reviews, Google Business Profile and local rankings as well as AI visibility, and it is cheaper annually. AnswerFix is better only if your specific problem is AI answers and you want the paste-ready fix plus a re-check that verifies it.
Can I use BrightLocal and AnswerFix together?
Yes, and it is a reasonable setup. BrightLocal handles citations, reviews and Maps rankings. AnswerFix handles the narrow question of whether ChatGPT and Perplexity name you in your city, and gives you the markup to change that. Our free score costs nothing to run alongside.
