How to Add Schema Markup to Wix

Wix is a hosted website builder where custom code is added through a dashboard panel rather than a theme file, and it requires a paid plan before that code will run at all.

Plan requirement

Custom code on Wix requires a Premium plan with a connected domain. On the free plan, the Custom Code panel exists in the dashboard, but the code does not run on the live site. Wix ties code snippets to a specific domain, and states that if you assign a different domain to your site, your snippets will be deleted rather than moved, so treat schema code as something you may need to re-add if you change domains.

1. From your site's dashboard, go to Settings. 2. Under Development & integrations, click Custom Code. 3. Click Add Custom Code, usually in the top right. 4. Paste your JSON-LD script, including the opening and closing script tags. 5. Name the snippet so you can find it later. 6. Under Add Code to Pages, choose All pages or specific pages. 7. Under Place Code in, choose Head. Body start and body end are also offered, but schema markup belongs in the head. 8. Click Apply, then publish the site.

Schema needs to run once per page and does not interact with anything visible, so Head placement with a specific pages scope is usually right for a single LocalBusiness or Product entry, with a separate sitewide Organization snippet if you need one on every page.

The robots.txt editor

Wix sites include an editable robots.txt file, more flexible than several competitors. To reach it, go to SEO & GEO in the dashboard, scroll to Tools and settings, and click Robots.txt Editor, then View File. You can add or change directives directly and click Save Changes. Wix's own documentation calls this an advanced feature and states support cannot help you fix mistakes you introduce, so change one directive at a time and check the site is still crawlable afterward.

What is not possible

Wix's Custom Code panel only accepts code in the head or body start and end of the page; it does not give access to server response headers, so you cannot set an X-Robots-Tag header from the dashboard, only meta robots tags and the robots.txt file. There is no built in schema generator in the core Wix editor either. Wix Studio and certain apps in the Wix App Market add schema templates, but the core editor expects you to write or paste your own JSON-LD.

How to verify

After publishing, view the live page's source and confirm your application/ld+json block appears once, in the head, with the fields you expect. Run the URL through a structured data testing tool, since Wix does not validate the JSON before publishing.
