The best AI visibility tools for local businesses in 2026

The best AI visibility tools, ranked: BrightLocal at $41 a month is first, Local Falcon second at $24.99. AnswerFix made the list, third.

Updated September 21, 2026

The best AI visibility tool for a local business in 2026 is BrightLocal, because its Local AI Visibility Tracker is included in a $41 a month plan that also covers citations, reviews and local rankings. Local Falcon is second at $24.99 for true geo-grid coverage of seven AI surfaces. We make AnswerFix and we have placed it third, because on these criteria that is where it belongs.

How this list is ranked

The ranking is for one specific buyer: a single-location business, or an agency serving several of them, deciding where to spend under a few hundred dollars a month. It is not a ranking of which product is most sophisticated. Peec AI and Profound are more advanced tools than several things above them here, and they rank lower because they are not built for this buyer.

Five criteria, in this order of weight:

  • Local intent, heavily weighted. Can the tool answer "does an AI engine recommend me in my town" without buying an upgrade to reach city level? A tool that only geo-targets by country is answering a different question.
  • Price at one location. Published, self-serve, and reachable without a sales call.
  • What you get. Reading or doing. A dashboard that tells you your share of voice fell is worth less to a local owner than something that changes the outcome.
  • Engine coverage. More surfaces is better, weighted below the first three because a local business that is invisible on ChatGPT is usually invisible everywhere.
  • A free path. Can you evaluate it honestly without a credit card?

What we deliberately did not weigh

Feature counts, funding rounds, logos on the homepage, and any rating we did not collect ourselves. We also did not weigh enterprise capabilities like SSO, SOC 2 and API depth, because for this buyer they are not decision factors. If they are decision factors for you, this is the wrong list and the full comparison table will serve you better.

Every price below was read off the vendor's own page on 21 September 2026. Where a vendor publishes no price, the entry says so.

The ranking, 1 to 15

1. BrightLocal, $41/mo monthly or $31/mo billed annually

Wins because AI visibility is included in the cheapest plan rather than surcharged, and because the same subscription covers local rank tracking on 100 keywords, citation monitoring, a Google Business Profile audit and a five-keyword geo-grid. Fourteen-day free trial, no card. Named AI coverage is ChatGPT and Google's AI surfaces, which is narrower than several tools below it. For most local businesses that trade is worth making.

2. Local Falcon, $24.99/mo

The only tool here that maps visibility across an actual service area, now running that grid across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Grok, AI Mode, Copilot, Apple Intelligence and Google AI Overviews. Cheapest genuinely local-first option, and 100 free credits at signup let you try it properly. Second rather than first because credits are spent by grid geometry, which is hard to budget, and because the output is analysis rather than something that changes your website.

3. AnswerFix, free then $39/mo

Ours. City-level questions are the default rather than an upgrade, the free report quotes the engines' actual answers and names the competitors they recommended instead of you, and it includes one complete paste-ready fix plus a re-check that confirms it landed. Third and not first because it covers three engines rather than seven, has no geo-grid, no citation tools, no review management and no API. If you want breadth, the two above are better buys.

4. Otterly.ai, $29/mo

The best cheap multi-engine tracker. Fifteen prompts across ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot, daily, with unlimited team members and 1,000 GEO audits a month. Held back by prompt count: fifteen does not cover a local service list, and the next tier is $189.

5. LLMrefs, $79/mo

Best value for a small agency by a wide margin. One plan, every engine included with no per-model fees, unlimited projects, domains and seats. For ten clients that is roughly $8 each. Fifth because geo-targeting is country level only, which is the wrong granularity for a single location.

6. ZipTie.ai, from $42.75/mo

The fairest pricing model in the category. You pick engines and cadences and the price follows, prompts are slots you hold rather than a meter, and seats and projects are unlimited. Seven engines, a 7-day trial with no card, API and MCP for $10 a month. Sixth because it has no local product and you still write the prompts.

7. Knowatoa, $59/mo

Unlimited sites on every plan, which removes the per-domain multiplication that makes Semrush and Ahrefs expensive at scale. Starter covers ChatGPT, AI Overviews and AI Mode; all seven services arrive at $199. Good for a freelancer with many small clients, weaker if you need depth on any one of them.

8. Rankscale.ai, $20/mo Essentials, $99/mo Pro

Eight engines, white-label reporting and a REST API on Growth at $385, credit rollover, unlimited search terms. Ranked here rather than higher because the $20 tier's capacity is not published and the first plan with stated capacity is $99, and because credit budgeting takes a month of history to get right.

9. Semrush AI Visibility, $99/mo per domain

The best prompt research in the category, backed by a query dataset no AI-native vendor can match, plus AI visibility reports you can run on any domain. Ninth because $99 per domain multiplies brutally for an agency and 25 prompts is a tight local set. Obvious buy if you already pay for Semrush.

10. Promptwatch, free then $95/mo

A free Explore tier with no clock, MCP and API access included at entry, and AEO article generation above it. Tenth for one specific reason: country level tracking on Essential and Professional, with state and city level tracking starting on Business at $579 a month. That gate is the wrong shape for a local buyer.

11. Peec AI, $95/mo

The cleanest reporting product here, with unlimited seats on every paid plan and daily tracking at entry. Its matrix now lists a Local GEO row. Eleventh because $95 for 50 prompts and three models is brand pricing, and because it measures rather than repairs.

12. Ahrefs Brand Radar, $129/mo Lite

Six AI surfaces plus YouTube, TikTok and Reddit mentions, on top of the industry's deepest link and keyword index, with location priced as a real dimension of a check. Twelfth because Lite includes only five tracked AI prompts and a working setup realistically needs a $50 custom prompt package on top.

13. AthenaHQ, free then $295/mo

The most generous free tier in this comparison: 300 credits worth $25 of usage across five engines, no card. Starter adds eleven models and a content optimization agent that takes on-page and off-page actions. Thirteenth because there is nothing between free and $295.

14. Scrunch AI, $250/mo

Monitoring plus site diagnostics plus an Agent Experience Platform that reformats content for AI crawlers, and AI crawler traffic analysis that nothing else here offers. Fourteenth on price alone for this buyer. Sitecore acquired Scrunch in June 2026, which is reassuring for enterprise buyers and less certain for small self-serve ones.

15. Profound, no published price

The most ambitious product in the category, with agents that research and write rather than only report, and up to nine answer engines. Last on this list purely because a single local business cannot buy it: the pricing page offers a free ChatGPT-only trial and an Enterprise tier behind a demo. Run the free trial anyway, it costs nothing.

Who should buy nothing yet

If you have never checked, do not buy anything this week. Several tools here let you look for free without a card: AthenaHQ's Essential tier, Promptwatch's Explore tier, LLMrefs' free account, Local Falcon's 100 signup credits, Profound's trial, Semrush's free AI Search Visibility Checker, and our own free score. Run two or three of them. If the engines already name you for your main local question, you have a monitoring problem, not a visibility problem, and the cheapest tool that watches for changes is enough.

How to actually test the shortlist

Pick your single most valuable local question, phrased the way a customer would say it out loud, with your town in it. Run that exact question through every tool you are trialling in the same week. Then compare three things: whether each tool names the same competitors, whether each shows you the raw answer text or only a score, and whether any of them tells you what to change. AI answers vary between runs even for the same question, so run it more than once before you conclude anything, and treat a single confident number from any vendor with suspicion. Our methodology page documents the variance we found in our own repeated tests, and our free tools cover three fixes you can apply today regardless of which product you buy.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best AI visibility tool for a local business?
BrightLocal, at $41 a month or $31 billed annually, because its Local AI Visibility Tracker is included in the entry plan alongside citations, reviews and local rank tracking. Local Falcon at $24.99 is the better choice if you need geo-grid maps and broad AI engine coverage.
Why is AnswerFix third on its own list?
Because on the stated criteria it is third. AnswerFix covers three engines rather than seven, has no geo-grid, no citation tools and no review management. It ranks above the rest because city-level questions are the default and the free report includes a complete fix plus verification.
What is the cheapest AI visibility tool?
Rankscale.ai lists Essentials at $20 a month, though its capacity is not published, and Local Falcon Starter is $24.99 with 7,500 credits. Otterly.ai Lite is $29. Free options with no card include AthenaHQ Essential, Promptwatch Explore and an LLMrefs free account.
Do any of these tools fix the problems they find?
Very few. Most produce dashboards and recommendations. AthenaHQ has a content optimization agent, Scrunch reformats content for AI crawlers at Enterprise, ZipTie drafts content as a $20 add-on, and AnswerFix generates paste-ready markup and then re-checks that you published it.
