Profound alternative for local businesses
Profound publishes no self-serve price, only a free 10-prompt ChatGPT trial and an Enterprise demo. See what that means for one business.
Updated September 21, 2026
Profound is the best-funded AI search analytics platform in the category, and as of 21 September 2026 it publishes no self-serve price. Its pricing page offers exactly two brand tiers: a free trial with 10 prompts run once against ChatGPT, and Enterprise at custom pricing behind a demo. For a single local business that wants a number today, that is a hard stop.
What Profound is, and who it is genuinely good for
Profound started as an answer-engine analytics product and has moved well past dashboards. The centre of the product now is what it calls the AI Marketer: an agent that researches, writes, reports and collaborates using a stored Context Manager full of knowledge about your brand. Agents are reusable workflows for recurring marketing work. Profound Sheets runs those agents at scale. Opportunities surface proactively rather than waiting for you to go looking.
This is a genuinely more ambitious product than most of this list, and it is fair to say so. Where a typical competitor tells you your share of voice fell, Profound is built to draft the response. The company announced a $180 million Series D on its own site, which tells you the roadmap is funded for a while.
It is genuinely good for:
- Large brands with a marketing team. Nine answer engines tracked, multiple languages and regions, ChatGPT Shopping coverage, full API access.
- Buyers with a procurement process. SSO and SAML, SOC 2 compliance, unlimited seats, dedicated support. If your security review is going to ask these questions, Profound has the answers ready.
- Agencies that pitch. The agency side gives 10 pitch workspaces a month specifically for running audits on prospects, which is a smart, honest feature that most vendors do not build.
What Profound costs today
| Tier | Published price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Trial (brands) | Free | Limited AI Marketer credits, 10 prompts run once, ChatGPT only, 1 language, 1 region |
| Enterprise (brands) | Not published | Tailored prompt tracking, up to 9 answer engines, SSO and SAML, SOC 2, dedicated support |
| Agency Growth | Not published | 10 pitch workspaces a month, agency mode, consolidated billing, full client workspaces as an add-on at $399 a month |
| Agency Enterprise | Not published | Tailored client and trial workspaces, dedicated agency partner, premium Slack support |
The only hard dollar figure on the page as of the check date is the $399 a month per full client workspace on Agency Growth. Everything else says custom, tailored, or get a demo.
We want to be careful here, because earlier write-ups of Profound circulate figures like $99 and $399 a month for Starter and Growth tiers. Those tiers are not on the pricing page today. We are not saying those numbers were never real. We are saying we checked on 21 September 2026 and could not find them, so we will not print them as if we could.

Where it fits a local business, and where it does not
It mostly does not, and Profound is not pretending otherwise. The page language is about companies operationalising AI search insights and running marketing agents at scale. A single dentist is not the buyer.
The free trial is still worth twenty minutes of your time. Ten prompts run once against ChatGPT will tell you whether the engine names you at all, which is a real answer even if it is a one-off snapshot with no tracking behind it.
Where the mismatch bites:
- No published price means no self-serve path. You cannot sign up, see a bill, and cancel. You book a call.
- One language and one region on the trial. A local business is by definition a region question.
- The trial runs once. There is no re-check, so you cannot tell whether a change you made helped.
- ChatGPT only on the trial. Perplexity and Gemini behave differently, and a local business needs more than one reading.
- $399 a month per client workspace on the agency side prices out an agency whose local clients pay $500 a month total.
What AnswerFix does differently
AnswerFix is a much smaller product aimed at a much smaller question, and the differences follow from that.
- A published price you can act on. Free score, then $39 a month for Starter. No demo, no call, no quote.
- Local intent questions written for you. Give a website, a city and a category. We generate the questions your customers actually type.
- One complete fix, free. The free report includes one full repair with the paste-ready code and instructions for your platform, not just a title.
- A re-check that verifies the fix. Paste the code, press re-check, and we confirm in about ten seconds whether it landed.
- The raw answers, free. You read what the engine said in its own words, so you can audit our conclusion.
What we do not do: Profound tracks up to nine answer engines. We track ChatGPT and Perplexity free, and add Gemini on paid plans. We have no agent that writes your content, no ChatGPT Shopping coverage, no SOC 2 report, and no API.
Profound and AnswerFix, side by side
| Profound | AnswerFix | |
|---|---|---|
| Published entry price | None, demo required | Free score, then $39/mo |
| Free option | Trial, 10 prompts run once, ChatGPT only | Free score, re-runnable monthly, no card |
| Engines | Up to 9 on Enterprise, 1 on the trial | ChatGPT and Perplexity free, Gemini on paid |
| Local intent | Not the product's focus | Built around it |
| Output | Dashboard plus agents that research and write | Paste-ready code, then a re-check |
| Agency model | Pitch workspaces, client workspaces at $399/mo each | 15 locations at $299/mo, then $15 each |
| Compliance | SSO, SAML, SOC 2 | Not offered |
| Best fit | Enterprise brands and large agencies | One local business, or a small agency with local clients |
When to choose Profound instead of us
There are real cases, and they are not edge cases:
- You are an enterprise brand. If nine answer engines, multiple regions and languages, API access and a SOC 2 report are requirements rather than nice-to-haves, we are not a candidate and Profound is a leading one.
- You want the work done, not just measured. The AI Marketer drafts. We generate schema and answer blocks from facts you already have, which is narrower. If you want an agent that writes marketing copy, Profound is closer to that.
- You are an agency that pitches on audits. Ten prospect audit workspaces a month is a sales tool, and it is a good one. We have nothing equivalent.
- You sell products through ChatGPT Shopping. Profound covers it. We do not.
- Your buying process expects a demo. Some organisations genuinely cannot purchase software without one. That is a legitimate constraint, and it points at Profound rather than at us.
If you are one location and the real question is whether ChatGPT sends people in your town to you or to a competitor, run the free AnswerFix score first. It costs nothing and takes a few minutes, and it will tell you whether you have a problem worth spending on at all.
Frequently asked questions
- How much does Profound cost?
- Profound does not publish a self-serve price. As of 21 September 2026 its pricing page lists a free trial with 10 prompts run once on ChatGPT, and an Enterprise tier at custom pricing behind a demo. The one published figure is $399 a month per full client workspace on the agency side.
- Is Profound's free trial useful for a local business?
- It is worth running once. Ten prompts against ChatGPT will show whether the engine names your business at all. What it cannot do is track changes over time, cover Perplexity or Gemini, or tell you which change on your website would fix the gap it found.
- What is the best Profound alternative with published pricing?
- For a brand, Peec AI at $95 a month and Otterly.ai at $29 a month both publish full price ladders. For a single location, BrightLocal Track at $41 a month and AnswerFix at $39 a month are the closest published options. All prices checked 21 September 2026.
- Did Profound used to have a $99 plan?
- Several older comparison articles quote $99 and $399 self-serve tiers. Those tiers are not on Profound's pricing page as of 21 September 2026, so we do not list them. We only publish prices we read on the vendor's own page on the date we say we read them.
